The Removal Procedure

Our normal procedure is to remove the internal filter from the exhaust system, leaving the outer casing in place. The procedure begins by disassembling the exhaust system from the vehicle. A small window is then cut in the top or engine facing side of the DPF canister, the internal filter is then removed. After removing all of the internal filter the window is welded back into position and the DPF canister and exhaust system is refitted to the vehicle. We can also supply and fit DPF bypass pipes for those that wish to keep the original DPF canister intact.

Once the physical filter removal has been completed the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) is reprogrammed (Remapped) and any DPF related structures removed from the vehicles software. This will prevent the vehicle from sensing the missing filter and will prevent future DPF regeneration and DPF related warning lights. This is the most important aspect of the removal process and it is vital that the ECU is reprogrammed correctly or DPF issues will continue.

Removing the DPF from your vehicle is not only a cost effective solution but it also boasts the following advantages:

  • Increased Performance
  • Increased Efficiency (MPG)
  • Less Turbo Lag
  • Reduced Maintenance Costs

ACTIVE DPF REGENERATION SYSTEM

When the soot loading in the filter reaches a set limit (about 45%) the ECU will initiate post combustion fuel injection to increase the exhaust temperature and trigger regeneration. If the journey is a bit stop/start or you take your foot off the accelerator while the regeneration is in progress, it may not complete and the warning light will come on to show that the filter is partially blocked.

PASSIVE DPF REGENERATION SYSTEM

Passive regeneration takes place automatically on motorway-type runs when the exhaust temperature is high. Because many cars don’t get this sort of use car manufacturers have to design-in ‘active’ regeneration where the engine management computer (ECU) takes control of the process.

A car which is primarily used for motorway use will generally run at warmer temperatures and therefore produce far less particulate matter than one used in a stop/start city environment. A vehicle used on the motorway is also going to be able to regenerate more often and effectively as it is in the perfect driving environment for the regeneration process to occur.

The operation of the DPF is controlled by the ECU and requires multiple signal feeds from various sensors in order to operate effectively. The most common type of DPF runs two pressure sensors and a varying number of temperature sensors. There is differential pressure sensor mounted in the engine bay which picks up the pressure both before and after the DPF. It is the variance in pressure between these two pick-ups which allows the ECU to calculate the percentage saturation of the DPF. Once the ECU establishes the saturation level it is able to force a regeneration cycle. The progress of the cycle is monitored by the temperature sensors and takes constant feedback from the differential pressure sensor which enables to know when the burn off process is complete.

Dyno Results Anywhere!

With DynoRoad the measurements are highly accurate and repeatable by simply entering the correct vehicle weight and the tire dimensions. In addition, this car dyno has an integrated weather module that will allow you to measure ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure. DynoRoad allows you to consistently repeat results under similar conditions with a margin of error of less than 1%.  Call us today to book a DynoRoad Session

Generall Asked Questions

/01Is Remapping Safe for my Vehicle?

Remapping enhances and optimises the power of the engine within safe limits. We are taking up the slack of the high tolerance level that vehicle manufacturers always build in – often to ensure that warranty claims are kept to an acceptable minimum. A good remap from a file writer who understands the strategy within the ECU will not allow the engine to get close to component failure.

Note that quality tuning companies offer very similar gains – so be wary of some with a lesser reputation, who appear to offer enormous power increases. In reality these claims are either simply untrue, or they are programming the ECU well outside of safe operating parameters. Every vehicle has a mechanical limit to the amount of power it can produce, so if it sounds too good to be true it generally will be.

/02Why Don't the manufacturer remap the Vehicles?

A manufacturer cannot risk selling a vehicle on the very edge of performance, so engine management calibration is a compromise: it has to take into account regional differences for fuel quality and operating conditions.

The way an engine delivers its power and driveability is also subject to sales and marketing constraints, to ensure it is portrayed in the best light possible when compared to its rivals. Marketing departments within the big vehicle manufacturers wield a surprising amount of influence; if they demand that a torque curve should look a certain way because they believe it gives them a sales advantage, they tend to get what they want - despite realistic opposition from those who actually calibrate the car.

/03What Warranty do you offer?

An engine that is running from a Fine Tune Motorsport Map will not suffer any reliability issues provided it is well maintained. In the highly unlikely event that there is a problem we will look to resolve the issue should it be determined that it was caused by the upgrade. We offer a 30 day money-back guarantee in the event that you are not satisfied with the conversion.

/04Do I need the inform my insurance Company?

We advise that it is your responsibility to inform your insurance Company of any modification to your vehicle. We are finding that more and more insurance companies are not penalising their customers for saving fuel and recognise our economy upgrades. We can provide a certificate of conformity if required.

/05How does the remap work?

The Map alters the fuel, boost, and torque characteristics of the engine by adjusting the fuel pressure, injected fuel quantity, maximum permissible visible smoke limit, boost pressure, and torque limits.

The conversion offers a fully understood alteration to the engine characteristics, whilst still operating with complete feedback control, and within all preset engine sensor parameters.

/06is DPF Removal Legal?

Please note that we only offer DPF solutions for Off-Road Usage only. Although it is not illegal to remove a DPF filter form your vehicle, it is an offence under the Road vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulation 61a(3))1 to use a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet. Removal of a DPF will almost invariably contravene these requirements.

From February 2014 the inspection of the exhaust system carried out during the MoT test will include a visual check for the presence of a DPF. A missing DPF, where one was fitted when the vehicle was built, will result in an MoT failure,

From February 2014 the inspection of the exhaust system carried out during the MoT test will include a visual check for the presence of a DPF. A missing DPF, where one was fitted when the vehicle was built, will result in an MoT failure.

The potential penalties for failing to comply with Regulation 61a are fines of up to ÂĢ1,000 for a car or ÂĢ2,500 for a light goods vehicle.

/07Do you have a dyno?

We use an alternative to a standard dyno, This is called DynoRoad.

In addition, this car dyno has an integrated weather module that will allow you to measure ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure. DynoRoad allows you to consistently repeat results under similar conditions with a margin of error of less than 1%.

/08How often should I service my vehicle after a remap?

We suggest the following;

Stage 1 Remap
Once a Year or 10,000 miles whichever comes sooner

Stage 2 Remap
